Pearl River Education Foundation Raises $11,000

The Pearl River Education Foundation raised $11,000 with its first fundraising event, a kick-off gala at the Pearl River Elks Club.

The Pearl River School District administration and board of education recently began discussing the budget challenges it faces for 2013-14, which could leave some programs without funding.

The Pearl River Education Foundation formed in late 2012 to help with such matters. The goal of the foundation is to raise money to support district programs that do not fit into the budget.

The Pearl River Education Foundation began those fundraising efforst with a kickoff gala Jan. 25 at the Pearl River Elks Club and announced last week that the event raised approximately $11,000.

The foundation sent out a letter to the district last week thanking those who contributed, saying "On behalf of the Pearl River Education Foundation we would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support you showed us last Friday evening at our kick-off event at the Pearl River Elks’ Club."
