The Franklin Avenue Playground Committee doesn't settle for just the traditional fundraiers.
One year ago, the drew a huge crowd to the Central Ave. Field in Pearl River to help break the world record for the longest ice cream sundae.
On May 10, they will bring a professional wrestling show to Pearl River High School for Family Wrestling Night.
"It's going to be a blast," said Tom Warren of the playground committee. "I like doing different things. More people will go to something different."
The event features members of the East Coast Professional Wrestling Company. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the first of eight matches at 7:30 p.m. The main event will be a 20-man battle royal.
Tickets cost $20 for ring side and $15 for the bleachers. Warren said they will be set up for 250 seats at ring side and 500 in the bleachers. For more information or to order tickets, email FAPlayground@hotmail.com.
Warren stressed that the event will be appropriate for small children.
"It's a family-oriented thing," Warren said. "It's made for kids. It's made for the family. It's (professional) style wrestling, but it's a 100 percent kid friendly environment. I'm bringing my 6-year-old."
Though participants won't be able to eat the main event this time as they did with the record-setting sundae, there will be concessions provided by Raffaele's Pizzeria and Yogurt Sensations. There will be a raffle, with the prizes including a Franklin Avenue championship belt.
The playground committee will also hold a more traditional fundraiser next week. They will have a plant sale at Franklin Avenue Elementary School May 9 and 10.
