Pearl River High School's New York State Science Honor Society inducted its new member Tuesday in the high school library.
Club Advisor Brenda Sommerlad said the society was created in 1991 to honor student achievement in science. The students inducted Tuesday had maintained a grade level of 90 or higher for at least three semesters in Regents-level science.
Sommerlad said that students are recognized by the society for scholarship, service and personal character.
Senior John Brebbia acted as student speaker, focusing on his love for science and the importance and utility of the subject.
"Nearly everything on this Earth has some correlation to science, making it clearly the most important field of study," Brebbia said. "Throughout my career here at PRHS, I have been able to learn with the best teachers who have made curriculum come alive. The excitement of the science classroom is addicting and I found myself drawn to the science wing more and more as time went on."
