Pearl River Library Sends Kids to Italy for an Afternoon

Elementary-school students learned about Italy and did crafts while watching Pinocchio as an activity for the library's summer reading program.

Children come up with a unique take on things.

One exchange during Monday's "We're on our way to...Italy" program at Pearl River Public Library demonstrated that.

"My dad taught me how to be Italian," boasted a seven-year-old sporting a shirt written in Italian. "He used to be Italian a long time ago."

"I'm sure he's still Italian," said a laughing Annadora Pedro, the event organizer for the Pearl River Library's Italian afternoon.

The Pearl River Public Library's summer reading program focuses on different countries. Children participating are encouraged to read about various places in the world.
