Pearl River Library Hearing Tuesday Night

Pearl River Public Library will hold its 2012-13 budget vote and trustee election Tuesday, June 5 at the Library from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be a public hearing for the budget and presentations by the trustee candidates tonight.

The proposed 2012-13 budget for the Pearl River Public Library calls for a 1.99% from 2011-12, with the tax levy going up 2.18%.

With the allowable exceptions, the tax levy increase is below state-mandated tax cap.

The $2.23 million budget will be on ballot June 5 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the library along with two candidates for one five-year term on the Pearl River Library's Board of Trustees.

The two candiates are Jennifer Brebbia Rankin and Elizabeth Van Wynen. Profile information for both candidates is attached to this report. 

Among the increases on the budget are:

  • Personnel from $1,190,475 to $1,220,000
  • State retirement from $156,000 to $166,000
  • Computers and the RCLS Network fro $65,000 to $70,000

The proposal includes a $1,000 cut in library supplies and processing and and the removal of the MTA TAx, which cost the library $4,047 in 2011-12.

There will be a public budget hearing and trustee candidate presentation Tuesday, May 29 at the library. 

Voters can register at the library May 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
