Pearl River Parent Workshop Focuses on Social Media

The variety of social networks can make it difficult for parents to keep up with all the ways their children are communicating with those around them.

The Pearl River School District will provide some help in that area Tuesday morning by bringing back "What You Don't Know About Your Child's Social Networking," a free Parent University seminar at 9:30 a.m. in the Pearl River Middle School Auditorium.

Orangetown Police Detective Joseph Sullivan and Detective James Davis of the Computer Crimes Task Force gave a similar presentation in April. According to the notice on the district website, they will once again guide parents through the "facts, dangers and precautions regarding some of the popular websites/apps that your child may be using such as Snapchat, Instagram, ooVoo, Ask FM, and more."

Pearl River's Parent University seminars are free and open to all parents, not just those in the district. They are co-sponsored by the Pearl River School District Continuing Adult Education Department and the district PTA groups. No registration is required. For more information, call (845) 620-3921.

Pearl River Middle School is located at 520 Gilbert Ave. in Pearl River. Find directions here
