Pearl River Parent Workshops Address Dangers of Drugs, Social Networking

The Pearl River School District and the Pearl River PTAs will present parenting parenting workshops about the dangers of social networking and teen drug use next week.

The Pearl River School District and the Pearl River PTAs will sponsor two workshops to educate parents about two potential threats to children.

On Wednesday, April 10, Det. James Davis of the Computer Crimes Task Force and Det. Joseph Sullivan of the Orangetown Police Dept. will focus on the dangers facing children using social networking websites and ways to protect them. "What You Don't Know About Your Child's Social Networking" will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Pearl River Middle School auditorium.

Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 in the Pearl River School District Administration Building, "Dangerous Teen Drug Trends" will provide information regarding the current drug environment. This will include showing current drug paraphernalia, discussing trends in drug use, providing information about illegal drugs and legal substances being abused by teens.

Judy Mezey and Andrea Fallick of Student Assistance Services Corp. will make the presentation.  Student Assistance Services Corp. is a non-profit orgnaization that exists to help prevent substance abuse. 

Both workshops are free and open to all parents in and outside the district.
