Pearl River Schools Accept Four Retirements

The Pearl River School District approved a retirement incentive last month.

The Pearl River Board of Education approved a retirement incentive for employees at its meeting Jan. 8.

The administration cited the potential impact of that incentive as one of the variables that would impact how the district addresses a potential $1.7 million shortfall in the 2013-14 budget.

Pearl River Director of Human Resources and Community Services Diana Musich announced the retirement of three teachers and a school psychologist at Tuesday's board of education meeting.

The retiring district employees are:

  • Ellen Cahill, third grade teacher at Franklin Ave. Elementary School, after 16 years in Pearl River Schools.
  • Lynn Pearse, special education teacher at Evans Park Elementary School after 25 years in Pearl River Schools.
  • Jean Peck, psychologist at Pearl River High School after 25 years with Pearl River Schools.
  • Andrea Spaulding, teacher at Lincoln Ave. Elementary School after 21 years at Pearl River Schools.

"I want to thank (them) for all their years of service," Pearl River Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Morgano said. "At the beginning of each year, we ask people to stand up based on the amount of years in Pearl River. I think it is important. That's the collective history you have in a school district. When those people retire, they take a piece of that history with them. I will thank each of them personally. To recognize the years of service they gave the school district is important."
