Pearl River Schools Budget Hearing Tonight

In addition to two student presentations, tonight is the last Pearl River Board of Education meeting before the 2013-14 budget vote May 21.

Two weeks ago, the Pearl River Board of Education adopted the 2013-14 budget that will be on the ballot May 21.

Tonight's board of education meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. at the district administration building on Crooked Hill Road, marks the final opportunity for public discussion of the budget before the voting.

The budget would increase taxes for homeowners in the district 1.68 percent, a 6.03 percent jump for businesses. The tax levy increase is 3.5%, which falls within the state-mandated cap due to the built-in exceptions.
