Pearl River Schools Continue Budget Talks, Student Presentations

In addition to another 2013-14 budget workshop, tonight's Pearl River Board of Education meeting will include a student presentation.

The Pearl River School District administration and board of education will continue its 2013-14 budget process at tonight's meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. at the district administration building.

They will also get a look a some of the lessons they are paying for when band/choral music teacher Glyn Nixon brings in a group of students from Evans Park Elementary School to demonstrate how they use their recorders.

The full agenda is available here on the Pearl River School District website. Among the other items is the creation of a trust in the name of Thomas Scognamiglio, a Pearl River High School student who passed away in the fall.

Other key upcoming dates in the 2013-14 budget process are:

  • March 19, 7:30 p.m. - Pre-budget hearing and budget adoption at board of education meeting.
  • May 7, 7:30 p.m. - Public hearing at board of education meeting.

Why is there no agenda item for cutting the overblown salaries of the administrators? Why is there no agenda item highlighting EXACTLY what each administrator does?

School Board member Michael Clohessy brought this issue up tonight, so there is a story coming on Patch regarding the administration in the Pearl River School District, which is relatively small in comparison to neighboring districts.

Why was the SOCSD able to produce a budget with no cuts to staff and stay under the cap. can the Patch provide a public service and show us side by side comparisons of budgets in the 3 Orangetown school districts? Why did the PRSD cut positions when SOCSD did not? What are administrative salaries in each of the 3 school districts within the town. Can this news outlet provide this type of data or do you just rely own what certain members of the Board tell you?
