Pearl River Opens New Offices To Public Before Tuesday Meeting

The Pearl River School District will hold tours of its new administrative offices 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the first board meeting of 2012 to follow.

The Pearl River School District pushed back Tuesday's Board of Eduation meeting to 8 p.m. to allow for tours of the new adminstration offices at 7:30 p.m.

Both will be held at the new district administration building at 135 W. Crooked Hill Road.

Pearl River Director of Human Resources and Community Relations Diana Musich gave Patch a preview last week. Pictures of the new offices are attached to this article

The new building offers much more space and allows the entire administration to be in one building rather than split among two locations as it had been until the move in December.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Morgano said one thing he misses about his old office at Pearl River High School is that he can't just walk into the school, though he added that the administration will make an effort to be in the district's five schools as often as possible.

The full agenda for Tuesday can be found on the district website here. There will also a Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society induction in Pirate Cove at Pearl River High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The board of education meeting will include a PRHS Marine Science Club presentation which had to be postponed in November.

There will also be a resolution regarding the appointment of acting principals for the high school and middle school. According to New York State law, only building principals can give out-of-school suspensions. This would allow such matters to be handled if the building principal is unavailable.

The board will also hold a first reading of 36 new policies and policy revisions. Policies must be read at two school board meetings before they can be approved.

The agenda includes the approval of the district's lease agreement with Rockland ARC for the property on Franklin Avenue, which is the former home of the district administration. This agreement has been in place for over 20 years, since the district offices were moved to the high school, where they stayed until last month.
