Pearl River Schools: Storms Cause Minimal Damage

Hurricane Sandy and this week's nor'easter caused only minimal damage to Pearl River Schools, most notably a leak above the back gym at the high school.

The Pearl River School District returned to business as usual this week after being closed all of the previous week due to Hurricane Sandy.

The most noticeable damage was total of 12 fallen trees at Pearl River High School and Lincoln Avenue Elementary School, which were cleared last week. The only building that did not have power back within a day was the administration offices on Crooked Hill Road, which had electricity back by the weekend.

There was damage to the roof above Pearl River High School's back gym, which maintenance workers rushed to fix temporarily in advance of this week's snow.

"Along the edge, it lifted up and separated," Pearl River Director of Operations Quinton Van Wynen said. "We got that taken care of, though we had some leaks (Thursday) when the (snow) melted. We have to deal with the manufacturer and their authorized people to put a permanent fix in place. There is no structural damage. We just have to make sure we eliminate the leaks into the gym."

Adult education classes and other activities were cancelled Wednesday, but the district is back to regular activities including the girls soccer playoff game at Somers and the Pearl River High School Senior Show today.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
