Pearl River to Repeat Social Media Parent Workshop

Orangetown Police Detective Joe Sullivan and Detective James Davis of the Computer Crimes Task Force will speak to parents about social media in a parent workshop 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Pearl River High School Auditorium.

They presented the Pearl River School District Parent University program "What You Don't Know About Your Child's Social Networking" during a daytime session in November at Pearl River Middle School. Pearl River Director of Human Resources and Community Services Diana Musich said they added a second presentation after hearing requests from parents who wanted one in the evening.

The free workshop offers facts, potential dangers and precautions parents can take regarding websites and apps their children may be using, such as Snapchat, Instagram, ooVoo and Ask FM.

Parent Universities are sponsored by the Pearl river School District Continuing Adult Education Department and the district PTA organizations, but they are open to all parents. For more information, call (845) 620-3921.

Pearl River High School is located at 255 East Central Ave. in Pearl River.
