Pizzeria Wins Chili Cook-Off

Raffaelle's Pizzeria took home first place at the Pearl River SEPTA Chili Cook-Off Sept. 17 on the Central Avenue Field.

The fifth Annual SEPTA Chili Cook-Off Saturday on the Central Avenue Field in Pearl River offered something unique.

A pizzeria won a contest of making chili -- specifically Raffaelle's Pizzeria on Central Avenue.

The other contestants were The Blind Boar, Blue Moon Cafe, Davey's Locker, Emmett's Castle, Johnny's Barbecue, Lanie Lou's, Luigi O'Grady's, ShopRite of Pearl River, and Southbound.

The event is the Pearl River School District Special Education PTA's primary fundraise.

This year's winners were:

  • 1st Place- Raffaelle Pizza
  • 2nd Place- Emmett's Castle
  • 3rd Place- Luigi O'Grady's

People's Choice award winners were:

  • 1st Place- Luigi O'Grady's
  • 2nd Place- The Blind Boar

Blue Moon won 1st place Best Theme.

Last year, Davey's Locker won 1st place and Luigi O'Grady's won People's Choice.

Cheryl Ward, of Events by Cheryl, volunteers each year to help set tents up and ensure all the tables have enough sinks and supplies to meet health regulations. 

In addition to chili, there were plenty of activies for children with their families, including a big blow-up sports center.

Proceeds go to scholarships for Pearl River students who had to overcome unique obstacles to graduate.
