School District Accepts Petition For New School Board Candidate
Patrice Carrieri will run against incumbents Bruce Bond and Jackie Curtiss for two available Pearl River Board of Education seats. The election will be held May 15.
District Clerk Mary Flanagan announced at Tuesday's meeting the board officially accepted a petition from Patrice Carrieri which enters her into the election for the Pearl River Board of Education.
The petition requires the signature of 36 registered voters living in the district to get on the ballot. Carrieri said she got 50 signatures just to be sure she would have at least the 36 names because sometimes people don’t realize they are no longer registered to vote.
The election will be held May 15th and Carrieri is running for one of two open seats. Incumbents Jackie Curtiss and Bruce Bond are running for re-election.
“I just want to help the district continue to offer excellent education to all its students, like it does now,” Carrieri said. “I plan on working within the budget to do that, and working on the budget as a collaboration between the board and the community. That’s the best kind of budget, I think.”
Carrieri has two children, one who is in college after graduating from the Pearl River School District and a daughter that is a junior at Pearl River High School. Carrieri is currently co-president of the Pearl River High School PTA. She has held multiple positions at various PTA organizations from schools her kids were attending at those times.
“I’ve worked as a volunteer in this community for so long with PTAs, I just wanted to contribute to the district on another level now,” Carrieri said.
