St. Margaret's, St. Aedan's Coaches Meet In Annual Game

The CYO coaches faced off for the fourth time, with St. Margaret taking the 65-45 victory, Saturday at Pearl River High School.

After a heartbreaking loss last year, St. Margaret rebounded this year in its annual basketball game against St. Aedan’s Church with the most convincing win this far in the four-year series.

The game featured 21 coaches from each CYO program and St. Margaret won, 65-45, Saturday at Pearl River High School. The victory tied the series at 2-2.

Tim Hendricks, co-chair of the St. Margaret program, said the game raises money for each school’s CYO program. On Saturday, the stands were packed leaving standing room only. Hendricks said this year’s game had the best turnout yet.

“As word has been getting out and we’ve been promoting the game more, we’ve had bigger crowds each year,” Hendricks said. “It’s a really fun afternoon for everybody. The kids like to come out and see their coaches play and for us, it’s something we look forwards to all year. I know St. Aedan’s has been practicing, and we’ve been practicing all year. We meet once a week to play around and get familiar with all our styles.”

Throughout the game, CYO coaches and others involved with the programs were honored. Early in the third quarter, members from the Pearl River High School girls basketball team were brought out and received a standing ovation. The Pirates just to advance to the state final four, which is the furthest Pearl River has gone in the program's history.
