Pearl River Picks Wappingers' Pochintesta as Schools Chief

The Pearl River Board of Education has chosen a new superintendent—Marco Pochintesta.

Currently the superintendent in the Wappingers Central School District, Pochintesta served there as high school principal, assistant superintendent for business and interim superintendent before being appointed to the top spot in February 2013.

On the Pearl River website, the trustees said he will start July 14 so he will have transition time with outgoing Superintendent John Morgano. There are plans for a welcoming reception in September.

Here's a little bit of the information posted about him by the district:

Mr. Pochintesta has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Fordham University, a master’s degree in social studies education from Lehman College, and a second master’s degree in administration and supervision from the College of New Rochelle. He is currently pursuing his doctorate from Manhattanville College.

He discussed his working philosophy in an interview he did for the Jan/Feb 2013 newsletter of the Wappingers Congress of Retired Teachers.

"My vision is to have understanding of the community and its values. I’ll work with the stakeholders and seek to understand them. This is where I work," he said at the time. "I prefer rolling up my sleeves, being with people, seeing things visually and hands-on ... I prefer management by shoe leather and putting in the miles."
