Dealing with Alzheimers - 2012 Walk to End Alzheimers

Providing information about the upcoming 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's which is Sunday, October 7, 2012 at STAC in Sparkill.

The 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's is scheduled for this coming Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the STAC campus in Sparkill.  Registration and check-in start at 9 a.m. and go to 10 a.m. at the Romano Student Center (look for the purple balloon arch).

The opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m. and is a very touching event featuring individuals who have been or are currently affected by this disease.  The walk begins immediately following the opening ceremony (between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.).  The walk is a short, flat route winding through part of the STAC campus, starting from the Romano Student Center and going around some of the dorms.

If you are already registered on-line, you can just check-in and submit any additional donations at the registration table when you arrive.  Donations are accepted as cash or checks (made out to the Alzheimer's Association).  If you have not pre-registered, you can register that day by filling out a form and signing a waiver. And for those who are not interested in walking, you are more than welcome to just come and join the festivities and cheer on all the walkers.

Any walker who raises $100 or more gets a T-Shirt and all walkers get a pinwheel promise garden flower (while supplies last).  There are lots of exciting things at this year's walk -- great raffle prizes from local community businesses, including but not limited to a $400 landscaper fall cleanup, and some other big ticket items); delicious food donated from local businesses and community members (including but not limited to fabulous purple cupcakes donated by Sugar Shaynes bakery and hero sandwiches donated by Luigi O'Grady's Deli, pizza, hot dogs, pastries, bagels, etc.), free purple hair extensions for the first 100 people on line, face painting, etc.

Also, Luigi O'Gradys (Michelle Worob and Kay O'Grady) donated a 37 inch LCD HDTV that they are raffling off the weekend of the walk.  Raffle tix are $5 for one and $10 for 3.  Stop by Luigi O'Grady's to purchase raffle tix.  All proceeds go to Team O'Grady's fundraising efforts for the 2012 Walk.

It's a wonderful event and looks to be an amazing day again.  I've included some pictures from last years walk and will post many more from this year's walk after the event.

If anyone wants more information or wants to pre-register, go to www.alz.org/walk and click on New York and Sparkill.  Hope to see you all there.

-Siobhan O'Grady, a care-giver daughter

P.S. For those of you who are participating in the KJ Duathlon that morning, you can do both!!! I am doing the race and then heading right over to the walk myself!!!

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
