Albertus Magnus to Battle Dobbs Ferry for Section 1 Class B Championship

Both teams bring depth and offensive skill into the championship game 5 p.m. Saturday at the Westchester County Center.

Albertus Magnus and Dobbs Ferry both feature high-scoring juniors, deep benches and veteran senior leaders.

They even share identical records (17-4) and birls of prey for mascots (Falcons and Eagles, respectively).

They also share an opportunity -- they will play one another for the Section 1 Class B championship 5 p.m. Sunday at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

Albertus Magnus flies into the final off a dominating, 62-37, victory over Irvington. Junior forward Taylor Sayre dominated the boards with 20 rebounds and junior point guard Pat McGuinness continued his outstanding season with 23 points. Sayre entered the playoffs as the Falcons' top scorer with 17.6 points per game, ahead of McGuinness with 16.9 per contest.

Dobbs Ferry landed in the finals thanks to a 57-48 semifinal victory over rival Hastings. Junior forward John Yozzo-Scaperratta, a 6-foot-4 forward who can score inside and step outside and shoot from long range, led the way with 15 points. Junior guard Eddie Ritch has also made an impact in the playoffs, draining five thee-point shots in a 58-50 quarterfinal victory over Valhala.

Dobbs Ferry last made it to the section championship game in 1967. Albertus Magnus has won two Section 1 championships in its history, taking them back-to-back in 1994 and '95.
