Alicandri Sparks Pearl River Softball in Victory at Pelham

Sam Alicandri singled three times and drove in three runs for Pearl River in a 7-1 victory at Pelham Saturday.

Pearl River sophomore shortstop Sam Alicandri creates RBI opportunities for her teammates from the leadoff spot.

Saturday at Pelham, she drove in three runs herself, including a two-run single in the third inning which gave Pearl River the lead for good in a 7-1 victory at Pelham.

Alicandri finished the day with three hits in four at-bats and also scored a run. Senior Nicole Leote singled twice and drove in a run and Katherine McLaughlin scored two runs for the Pirates (4-0).

Pelham had taken a 1-0 lead when Caitlin Hearl double and came around to score on Ellen Gardon's RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Hearle went 3-for-3.

That was all sophomore pitcher Mandy McCarthy would allow. She struck out 13 and gave up the one run on five hits and two walks in seven innings for the victory. The Pirates were sharp behind her defensively, making no errors in the contest.

Pearl River continues a tough early-season schedule with a home game 4:30 p.m. Monday against Harrison.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
