Boulders Take Game Against Quebec in Extras, 5-4

By Shannon Lynch/Rockland Boulders

The Boulders came out on top in their final game against Quebec in this series, one that was close until the very end – and the end took quite a long time to reach. The team defeated Les Capitales 5-4 in 11 innings to take the series and extend their winning record, 31-26. They stay one step ahead of the NJ Jackals in the Can-Am standings, keeping their hopes of playoffs alive.

Right fielder Jerod Edmondson put the Boulders up on the board in the first inning, when he singled to score third baseman Steve Nyisztor. Quebec answered quickly in the second with two runs, but they didn’t hold the lead for very long.

With two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the second, Nyisztor tripled to bring in two more runs. Boulders RHP Pat Moran then held Quebec to four scoreless innings in a row, allowing his team to keep the one run lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, first baseman Mike Gedman extended that lead to 4-2 when he knocked a leadoff home run to the Corona Short Porch. Les Capitales responded at the plate in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs off an error and an RBI double against Moran.

Right-handed reliever Alex Kreis headed to the mound for the Boulders in the eighth, and held Quebec through the ninth inning. He was followed first by righty Kevin Fuqua in the tenth, and then left-handed pitcher Nick Serino, who was tagged with the win, in the eleventh.
