Mike Carlacci confirmed Monday that he has resigned as Pearl River High School's softball coach.
"It's nothing specific at this time," said Carlacci, who will continue as a math teacher at the high school. "At some point, you've got to decide what's best for your family. I'm not in the mindset to commit to coaching at this point. I feel it's best for my family for me to just be a teacher and a dad."
Carlacci currently holds the Rockland County record with 368 victories. He led Pearl River to a state championship in 2010. That team won the third of four consecutive Section 1 Championships for the Pirates.
The Pearl River coach spoke with his current players last week.
"It was a tough conversation, definitely," Carlacci said. "I'll miss it, definitely."
Carlacci said that his replacement has not been chosen yet. The Pirates return five starters from the team that went 17-2 and lost to Beacon in the section quarterfinals last season.
