Clarkstown South Deals Pearl River Softball First Defeat

Clarkstown South batters hit three home runs during a six-run fifth inning on the way to a 9-5 victory at home against Pearl River Sunday.

Clarkstown South trailed Pearl River by four runs when the Vikings found their power stroke in the bottom of the fifth inning Sunday at home.

Sami McDonald, Cassie Fishkin and Allie Tobias all homered during the six-run fifth inning to help Clarkstown South rally for a 9-5 victory. McDonald also pitched the complete game for the win for the Vikings.

The defeat was the first of the season for Pearl River (17-1) and sophomore pitcher Mandy McCarthy. Sophomore Sam Alicandri was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and senior Kristyn Neroda was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored for the Pirates. McCarthy doubled and drove in one run and senior outfielder Nicole Leote doubled and drove in two for Pearl River.

The Pirates will complete their regular season with their senior recognition day game 4:30 p.m. Monday at home against Nyack.

The section playoff pairings meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, with the Pirates' likely to play a Class A first-round playoff game at home 4:30 p.m. Friday.
