The Pearl River baseball team will play rival Tappan Zee in the Billy Kayser-Chris Bello Memorial game 7 p.m. tonight at Veterans Memorial Field in Orangeburg.

Last year, the teams agreed to play the game in place of the Billy Kayser Memorial Tournament that Pearl River had hosted in the past, mostly due to the reduction in the number of games allowed from 24 to 20.

Billy Kayser was a junior at Pearl River High School when he died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident April 3, 20003.

Chris Bello was a Tappan Zee High School graduate who died in a car accident eight years ago.

Last year, the teams played the game with wood bats. Pearl River won, 5-3.

This year’s game will be played with the same metal bats the teams normally play with due to the cost of buying enough wooden bats.

The two teams have met once this season in league play, with Pearl River winning, 8-3, at Tappan Zee April 24.

The teams were scheduled to play at Pearl River April 23, but that game was rained out and will be made up Friday May 18 at 4 p.m.
