The Nyack College men’s basketball team, still looking for its first win of the season, fell to 0-14 on the season after losing to host Bloomfield (NJ) College, 93-53.

The Warriors, 0-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, were led by sophomore guard Jose Pena-Benjamin of Rahway, NJ, who had 10 points, and Maliek Patterson of Brooklyn, a freshman forward who pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds in defeat.

Mamaroneck’s Wheeler third on the mat

Femi Wheeler of Mamaroneck was one of two place-winners for Plymouth State University as it placed eighth out of nine teams Saturday at the Williams Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Williamstown, MA.

The Panthers, who had just seven wrestlers competing in the tournament, finished with 32.5 points. Springfield won the team title with 125 points, with host Williams second with 86 and Roger Williams University third with 78.  The balance of the field included the University of Southern Maine (69), New York University (65.5), MIT (55.5), Simpson (39.5), PSU (32.5), and STCC (16.5).

Wheeler, a junior, competed in the 157-pound weight bracket, earning third place after winning his first two matches and then capturing two more victories in the back draw.

Plymouth State will be on the road Saturday (Jan. 14), traveling to NYU for a quad meet that will include Elizabethtown and Gettysburg.
