Spartans speed to success

Kantor Adds To Trophy Case

Sophomore defender Maya Kantor of New City earned first-team recognition on the women’s soccer VaSID College Division all-state team for her soccer exploits at Roanoke University. Kantor, a graduate of Clarkstown North, anchored the backfield in her second season as a starter for the Maroons, who posted 12 shutouts in the fall to finish 14-5-2 on the season, including an 8-3 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Roanoke advanced to the program’s third NCAA appearance in its 27-year history, following other achievements in 1998 and 2007, falling to Centre in penalty kicks, 8-7, in the first round of the tournament at Emory University in Atlanta.
