College Notes

Dominican College volleyball standout Jordyn Fuller of Keller, TX, has been named to the ECAC all-star team at the libero position. Fuller, a two-time team captain, led the Lady Chargers in digs for the third time in her career. She ranked second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in digs, and digs per set.

Former Pearl River standout Luke Houston is averaging 5.8 points per game as a freshman on the men’s basketball team at Southern Connecticut State University (6-6). Houston, a tough defender, is also averaging 2.3 rebounds per game, and has 20 assists and eight steals.

The Domincan College women’s basketball team (4-6) is 4-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. They take on Georgian Court University (2-10) 1 p.m. Saturday K.C. Jentzen of Pearl River, a sophomore forward, is averaging 10.2 points per game for Dominican, second only to junior guard Lindsay Lopez of Elmwood Park, N.J., who is averaging 10.9.

Brandon Heembrock of Ottawa, a senior goalkeeper at Dominican College, will attend the sixth USL Pro Combine, scheduled Jan. 26-29 in Bradenton, FL. Heembrock, who helped Coach John Campbell’s Chargers post a 9-6-3 mark (7-2-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference), was chosen from 300 applicants, of which only 102 spots were available. Since the combine began in 2006 more than 125 players have gone on to sign professional contracts with the USL, MLS and international squads.

Game: Pearl River vs. East Ramapo

Score: Pearl River Won 64-12

Highlights: At 138 Pearl Rivers Steve Moreno pinned his opponent in a marathon match that lasted 5:21. Rob Gullo (152) made it look east as it only took him 54 seconds to win by pin in his match.

Sport: Bowling

Game: Pearl River vs. Nanuet

Result: Pearl River boys defeated Nanuet. Nanuet girls defeated Pearl River.

Highlights: The Pearl River boys (57-34) won all three games and dropped a total of 2860 pins, while Nanuet (20-71) knocked down 2370. The Nanuet girls pulled out a close contest in the final frames.

In Boys Basketball, Pearl River will head to Nyack at 7 p.m.

In Girls Basketball, Nyack heads to Pearl River at 4 p.m.

In Ice Hockey, Pearl River will take on Horace Greeley at Brewster Ice Rink at 7:10 p.m.

In Boys' and Girls' Track and Field, Pearl River will compete in the Rockland County Invitational 4:30 p.m. at RCC.

Weekend Schedule

In Ice Hockey, Pearl River will look to continue its fast start when it plays Byram Hills in the Brewster Ice Rink at 8:40 p.m.

In Wrestling, Pearl River will have competitors at the 48th Annual Shoreline Invitational 9 a.m. at New Rochelle and the Scarsdale Tournament at 9.m.
