The Pearl River football team started slowly in the 2012 KSA Events National Football Summer 7's Sunday and Monday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.

Pearl River is 0-4 after facing four top schools from Florida.

“The kids’ spirits are great,” Pearl River Head Coach Jeff Michael said. “They realize what we are up against I have never seen high school football of this caliber.”

Sunday the Pirates fell to Cocoa High School, 26-12, and Miami Carroll, 28-13.

Monday, Pearl River lost to Freedom High School of Tampa, 40-28, and Seminole High School out of Orlando, 24-0.

Pearl River plays two games Tuesday.

Softball All-Stars Win State Title

The New City-Suffern-Congers 9-10 softball all-star team won the New York state championship tournament on Tuesday thanks to a 2-1 victory against Half Hollow Hills.

The win gives NCSC undefeated runs through the district, section and state tournaments.

NCSC’s two runs were scored by Megan Keaveney and Halle Medici, who recorded one of NCSC’s hits in the game, along with Lily Medici and Abbey Zazlav.

For the first time in tournament play, NCSC pitcher Kaitlyn Fudge actually gave up a run. She gave up one run on one hit to earn the victory. Samantha Kaner earned the save by pitching one scoreless inning. Prior to Monday’s game, NCSC had pitched three consecutive no-hitters, with Fudge pitching the first and third completely, and the first four innings of the middle no-hitter. Kaner finished off that game.

Next up for NCSC is a trip to the Eastern Regionals in Fleetville, PA., which starts on Saturday. There is no world series at this age level, so the regional tournament is the highest NCSC can go.
