The Pearl River baseball and softball 9-10 all-star teams split their opening round games of the Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament at Anderson Field in Orangeburg over the weekend.

The girls opened up the Alicia Brady Memorial tournament with a 22-4 win Sunday against South Orangetown. Pearl River’s next game is tonight against New City-Congers.

In the Billy Kayser Memorial tournament, the Pearl River boys lost 8-7 to West Nyack on Sunday. They next play Wednesday against New City.

This year is the ninth annual Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament, which is named after two former Pearl River Little Leaguers who both died while attending Pearl River High School. Alicia Brady died in an automobile accident in 1992 and Billy Kayser died in 2003 also in an automobile accident.

The proceeds from the entry fees, kitchen and raffles go to the Kayser Memorial Foundation and Brady Memorial Foundation. Both award scholarships annually to students who display characteristics similar to Kayser and Brady.

West Nyack Wins District Tournament

The West Nyack Little League 10-11 all-star team won the District 18 tournament on Saturday with a 14-5 win against Congers.

The win capped off a perfect run through the tournament for West Nyack, which will advance to the Section 4 tournament. The section tournament starts Saturday at Cesca Field in West Nyack.
