Daily Sports Digest: Pearl River Lacrosse Teams Win Playoff Games

Senior Chris McGarry scored at 3:39 of first overtime to give Pearl River an 8-7 victory at home against Westlake, the first playoff victory in the five-year history of the Pirates' program. 

Freshman Matt Bosco scored three goals and assisted on two more and Peter Dolan contributed two goals for Pearl River, which will play at top-seeded Bronxville 3:45 p.m. today as the Section 1 Class C playoffs continue.

Sport:  Girls Lacrosse

Game: Pearl River vs. Edgemont

Score: 

Highlights: Kiera McMullan and Maggie Davin both scored three goals and assisted on another and Jessica Mayernik also scored three goals. Goalie Delia White made eight saves for the Pirates. Gabby Suez led Edgemont with five goals as Carly Cintron scored four.

Sport:  Baseball

Game: Pearl River vs. Nanuet

Score:

Highlights: Brendan Ryan nearly threw a no-hitter as he struck out 13 in a complete game one-hitter to help the Pirates (12-6, 7-0) clinch the league championship. Tommy Higgins picked up the lone RBI of the game as he drove in John Doherty in the top of the seventh inning. 

Sport:  Softball

Game: Pearl River vs. Nanuet

Score:

Highlights: Mandy McCarthy struck out ten and only allowed one hit in the complete game shutout at Nanuet. McCarthy also led the Pearl River offense as she went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, Amanda Hartigan drove in a run a singled twice and Erin Woods scored two runs as Pearl River improved to 16-0. Rebecca Richards picked up Nanuet’s only hit in the loss.

Game: Albertus Magnus vs. Tappan Zee

Score: Tappan Zee Won 6-1

Sport:  Girls Lacrosse

Game: Albertus Magnus vs. Rye

Score: Rye Won 17-3

Sport:  Softball

Game: Tappan Zee vs. Albertus Magnus

Score: Albertus Magnus Won 5-4

Today’s Schedule

In baseball, Tappan Zee heads to Pearl River at 4 p.m.

In boys lacrosse, Pearl River heads to Bronxville at 4:30 p.m.

In softball, Pearl River will play Tappan Zee at 8 p.m. on South Orangetown Little League's Bailey's Field in Orangeburg. 

The Rockland County Track & Field Championships continue today at Suffern High School at 4 p.m.
