Pearl River graduate Christa Scognamiglio faced unfamiliar circumstances during her freshman year at Fairfiled University.
The Pirates' all-time leading scorer found herself barely playing during basketball season, getting on the floor for only 3.4 minutes per game.
"I didn't really get a chance to play," Scognamiglio said. "They said be patient and wit. I waited and never got my chance."
That led Scognamiglio to transfer to Stony Brook University, another Division I program. Scognamiglio will have to sit out a season due to NCAA rules, then will have three years to play at Stony Brook.
"I sent my release out to a bunch of schools," Scognamiglio said. "Stony Brook was one of them. They were interested and I went on a visit and really liked it. I think I have a better chance to play there than at Fairfield. I still have to wait a whole year to play, but I will be at schoolf our years. They have a really good Business Master's program. In the fifth year, I could get my Master's done."
White Plains grad Kim Hanlon, a former travel teammate of Scognamiglio's, plays for Stony Brook.
"She said she loved the coaches and that it was a really good program," Scognamiglio said. "It definitely helped my decision."
