Freshman Hayes Competes in State Track Meet

Freshman Kelly Hayes was Pearl River's lone representative in the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Kelly Hayes represented Pearl River at the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships, which were held June 10 and 11 at Caelonia-Mumford High School.

Hayes earned a spot by making a qualifying time and finishing second in the 2000-meter steeplechase in 7:05.67 at the Section 1 State qualifier last week.

At the state meet, Hayes ran a time of 7:45.76 to finish 26th in the 2000 steeplechase. Ward Melville senior Mary Cate Anselmini won the race in 6:33.14.

Hayes won Section 1 Class B championships in the 1500 run and the 2000 steeplechase May 27, helping the Pirates win the team title.
