Mayernik to Return to Pearl River Girls Lacrosse Sideline Monday

Laurie Mayernik will return as Pearl River girls lacrosse coach Monday after a three-game suspension.

Laurie Mayernik had not missed a game as Pearl River girls lacrosse head coach in 15 years until last week's loss to Brewster.

She said she will return to the sideline April 22, having been reinstated as head coach by the Pearl River School District at a special meeting Tuesday night. She will have to sit out Saturday's home game against Mamaroneck. Her first game back will be 4:30 p.m. April 23 at home against Nyack.

"I'm so excited," Mayernik said of getting back to coaching.

She expressed her appreciation for the group of approximately 70 people that showed up to support her Tuesday. Mayernik said she denies the accusations that led to the suspension, though neither she nor any representatives of the district will say what those were.

Mayernik still plans to retire at the end of this season.
