Pearl River entered Thursday's home playoff game against Westlake looking for the first postseason victory in the five-year-old program's history.
The Pirates nearly let it slip away when Westlake's Anthony Sardo tied the game up with 1:58 remaining in regulation.
Senior Chris McGarry scored the game winner on a dodge from behind the net with 3:19 remaining in tthe first overtime to give Pearl River the 8-7 victory.
The outbracket victory gives Pearl River the chance to play at top-seeded Bronxville 3:45 p.m. Friday.
McGarry finished the game with one goal and two assists. Freshman Matt Bosco led the Pearl River offense with three goals and two assists. Sophomore Peter Dolan scored twice for the Pirates and sophomore James Stephen and junior Kyle McDonald each contributed one goal.
Senior goalie Lowell Hunt made seven saves for Pearl River.
Pearl River railed at halftime, but seemed to take control of the game by scoring four unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter to take a 7-4 lead.
Westlake rallied by scoring three unanswered goals of its own in the fourth quarter. Pearl River had to hold on with a strong defensive effort at the end of regulation to force overtime.
Dan McNulty scored three goals and Sardo had two goals and an assist for Westlake.
