Pearl River pitcher Kevin Considine matched New Rochelle pitchers Andrew Zigmont and John Valente zero-for-zero for seven innings Friday at New Rochelle.
The Hugenots finally broke though against the Pirates bullpen in bottom the eighth when Jared Wiesel singled home Chris Elefante to give New Rochelle a 1-0 victory.
Valente got the victory for New Rochelle (9-1), coming on in the seventh when Zigmont left with an injury. The two pitchers combined to shut the Pirates out on three hits and two walks, striking out 10.
Considine struck out five and gave up two hits and three walks in seven shutout innings for Pearl River (5-3). Jake Tedesco and Chris Beers singled for Pearl River. John Doherty tripled as a pinch hitter with one out in the eighth, but the Pirates stranded him there.
