Pearl River 10-11 All-Stars Rally Past South Orangetown

Pearl River defeated South Orangetown, 8-7, Sunday.

Pearl River erased a seven-run deficit to defeat South Orangetown, 8-7, in the 10-11 District 18 All-Star Baseball Tournament Sunday.

Pearl River had already lost to South Orangetown once in the double-elimination tournament and trailed, 7-0, heading into the bottom of the third inning.

Pearl River rallied for four runs in the third, including a two-run double by Chris Sabino and a two-run single by Conor McCabe. Pearl River got an RBI single by Kevin Doorley in the fourth and a sacrifice fly by Pat Kennedy in the fifth to pull within one run.

Matt Politis ripped a double to the wall with two outs in the sixth to bring Sean Scanlon in with the tying run. McCabe singled Politis home with the winning run. Timmy Valentine and Owne Healy also contributed hits to the rally.

Sean McGarvey earned the victory and Kevin Doorley got the save as Pearl River shut South Orangetown down after the second inning.

"Every team needs one game like this in every tournament run," said Pearl River manager Bill Buchan.

"These boys learned a valuable lesson about never giving up," said third base coach Jude Kennedy.

Pearl River will play Haverstraw 7 p.m Tuesday at Dexter Park in West Nyack with a berth in the District 18 final at stake.
