Pearl River 10s Advance in States

Pearl River defeated South Shore, 6-5, in eight innings in the New York State Age 9-10 All-Star Tuornament Sunday in Glenville.

Pearl River needed extra innings to continue its run through the Age 9-10 New York State All-Star Baseball tournament Sunday.

Brendan Tarsnane drove Jeff Long home with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Pearl River the 6-5 victory over South Shore. Long and reached on an infield single and advanced on a bunt single by Denis Fleming and a wild pitch.

Tarsnane pitched the final 4 1/3 innings in relief of Sean Flaherty for the victory. Liam McLinskey doubled once and singled twice and Fleming contributed two singles for Pearl River.

Pearl River jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second inning, with McKlinskey's double driving in two and Matt Russo and Fleming contributing RBI singles. 

Anthony Ciancio hit an RBI double as part of a three-run fifth that got South Shore back in the contest. Mark Diorio tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth.

Pearl River will now play Horse Heads 6:30 p.m. Monday in the loser's bracket final.
