Pearl River 10-11 All-Stars Beat West Nyack 12-2

Pearl River started their pursuit of a District 18 championship with a big win in the opening round Saturday at Anderson Field.

The Pearl River Little League All Star team kicked of the District 18 10-11-year-old playoffs in style Saturday at Mooney Bockett Stadium in the Anderson Field Complex in Orangeburg.

The game was called when Pearl River extended their lead to 10 in the bottom of the fifth for a 12-2 victory over West Nyack.

Pearl River scored four runs in the first inning with the help of four West Nyack errors and never looked back. Pearl River starting pitcher Patrick Kennedy pitched all five innings and didn’t allow a single earned run.

“We really got some great pitching out of Patrick today,” said Pearl River Manager Billy Buchan. “We played pretty sound defensively out there and we just need to keep playing the way we play and get the job done.”

The defense surrounding Kennedy was quite stingy.

“I had a good game pitching today,” said Kennedy. “My team playing good defense all around me makes me feel confident out there.”

Other than Kennedy’s performance, the highlight had to be the solo blast off the bat of Pearl River’s Chris Sabino in the second inning.

“The team hit really well too,” said Kennedy. “Seeing them score runs and seeing my friend hit a home run makes me feel really good while I’m pitching.”

Pearl River scored six more runs in the third inning that came off six more West Nyack errors. Pearl River added a final run in the fifth inning when Steven Perzigian was walked with the bases loaded forcing in Joe Sassano.

“Other than a few mistakes that we don’t normally make, we played well today,” said Buchan. “We got the help of an awesome home run from Sabino and we are going to need to continue to play the way we play going forward. We’ve got a strong team coming up.”

Pearl River plays South Orangetown Sunday and is looking to continue toward a District 18 championship.
