Pearl River Baseball Falls to Beacon

Beacon rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to beat Pearl River, 5-3.

The Pearl River baseball team failed to hold a late lead for the second time in as many days in a 5-3 loss at home to Beacon Thursday.

Pearl River sophomore pitcher Kevin Considine held Beacon in check for six innings, taking a 2-1 lead into the final frame, but Beacon rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh.

The Pirates got one run back in the bottom of the seventh, but could get no closer.

Considine gave up five runs, but only one was earned, in the complete-game loss. John Doherty and Rich Masley scored two runs in the fifth inning, giving the Pirates the lead they took to the seventh. Jake Tedesco reached on an error and came around to score in the seventh.

Pearl River will play Tappan Zee in the Billy Kayser-Chris Bello Memorial game 7 p.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Field. Kayser was a 16-year-old Pearl River High School student who died in 2003 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Bello was a 2001 Tappan Zee graduate who lost his life in an automobile accident.
