The Pearl River Athletic Department announced Thursday that the boys and girls basketball games scheduled for Friday night have been moved to Monday, Feb. 11.
The girls basketball team (15-2) will now play at home 4:15 p.m. Monday against Nyack in the senior recognition game for th Pirates. Pearl River will also be celebrating National Women in Sports Day at halftime of Monday's contest. National Women in Sports Day was Feb. 6.
The boys basketball team (10-7) will now play 4:15 p.m. Monday at Nyack.
Section 1 made the changes possible by moved its pairings meetings for boys and girls basketball from the morning Feb. 11 to that night. The Section 1 boys and girls basketball tournaments are scheduled to begin with preliminary-round games Feb. 13 and the first round Feb. 15.
The Pearl River girls team is likely to be the first or second seed, earning the Pirates home-court advantage for the first round, and if they advance, the quarterfinals.
The Pearl River boys would likely need to beat Nyack Monday to have a chance to play at home in the first round. Because so many teams have a chance to make the playoffs in Class A, the Pirates could end up playing a preliminary-round game at home Feb. 13.
Section 1 Wrestling (UPDATEd at 4:55 p.m.)
The Saturday matches in the Section 1 wrestling finals were cancelled due to the high number of schools that had already called off all activities that day. Rather than spread over two days as planned, the sectionals will be held entirely Sunday.
Pearl River will compete in Division I, which will start 9 a.m. Sunday and go right on through to the finals. Most Rockland County schools will be there. Nanuet will join the other Division 2 schools at Irvington 9 a.m. Sunday.
