Pearl River Basketball Squads Set for County Games Monday

Wrestlers to compete in Section 1 championships Saturday and Sunday in Yonkers

The Pearl River boys and girls basketball teams will both play face Suffern in county games Monday.

The girls will play at Suffern at 4 p.m. while the boys game will be at Pearl River at 5:45 p.m.  Both games are rematches of contests in the regular season. The Pearl River girls defeated Suffern, 70-24, Dec. 30, while the boys won at Suffern, 63-60, in overtime Jan. 23.

Pearl River's girls basketball team (16-1) missed out on the opportunity to defend its Rockland County Championship when it lost a coin flip to Albertus Magnus (16-1) Thursday. Albertus Magnus will play Clarkstown North 1 p.m. Saturday at Clarkstown South in the girls county title game, followed by Tappan Zee playing North Rockland for the boys title at 3 p.m.

The Albertus Magnus boys basketball team will also play in a county game Monday, facing Clarkstown South at 6 p.m. at home.

Six Pearl River wrestlers will compete in the Section 1 championships Saturday and Sunday at Lincoln High School in Yonkers -- John Muldoon (96 pounds), Rob Gullo (130), Stee Moreno (135), Cameron Bruzzi (145), Kenta Umezaki (160) and Kyle Hartigan (189). The event starts with weigh-ins 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
