Pearl River Beats Nanuet In Boys Basketball

The Pearl River Pirates defeated the Nanuet Golden Knights, 58-41, in the consolation game of the Pearl River Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament.

Pearl River beat Nanuet, 58-41, in the consolation game of the Pearl River Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament Wednesday night.

“It was your typical Pearl River-Nanuet game,” said Pearl River coach Jerry Houston. “It was physical, with both sides really getting after it on the floor.”

Sean Wilson and Kevin Degnan led the way with 18 points each for the Pirates (3-3), followed by Austin O’Toole’s 13. O’Toole was the only member of either team to be named to the all-tournament team. The game comes less than 24 hours after the .

“I thought we were a little sluggish in the beginning of tonight’s game,” Houston said. “It’s very tough to turnaround less than a day after a game like the Tappan Zee one. Our kids spent a lot of energy last night in that game. It was an emotional one. And to bounce back and win tonight in a gym where the atmosphere might not have been as crazy as it was yesterday is impressive.”

The Golden Knights (3-4) were led in scoring by Mike Mulligan and Tuere Jackson, who finished with 12 apiece.

“This game was a series of runs,” said Nanuet coach Dave Masterson. “Pearl River jumped out on us, and we tried to crawl back into it, but just couldn’t. They’ve got a lot of good shooters and they move the ball well. They really can stop a run.”
