Pearl River Boys Basketball Falls to Ramapo [VIDEO]

The Pirates lost point guard Joe Clinton to an ankle injury in the first half of a 62-53 loss to the Ramapo Gryphons in the consolation game of the Tappan Zee Boys Basketball Tip-Off Tournament Saturday.

The Pearl River boys basketball team may have lost more than a game in Saturday's 62-53 defeat at the hands of the Ramapo Gryphons.

Senior point guard Joey Clinton rolled his ankle during the first half and was taken to the hospital to have it checked out.

"Right now we are kind of searching a little bit for osme answers offensively, especially with Joey going down today," Pearl River Head Coach Jerry Houston said. "That complicates things even further. I'm not sure what his status is going to be.

"Everybody is kind of pushed into a different role. Chemistry wise, that can play a little bit of havoc, with people playing new positions during a game."

The loss came in the consolation game of the Tappan Zee Tip-Off Tournament and dropped the Pirates to 2-2. Pearl River lost its first-round game, 68-33, to Tappan Zee.

Saturday afternoon, Pearl River struggled to contain Ramopo senior guard David Haye, who led all scorers with 25 points. Senior guard Kevin Taylor added 20 points and senior center Wesley Borno had 11 for the Gryphons.

"They pose a challenge," Houston said. "The kid Haye is really an excellent player. He makes so many difficult shots even when well defended. He hurt us quite a bit tonight. When we made a little bit of a run there in the third, he responded with some well-defended shots."

Senior guards Austin O'Toole and Steven Gilheany each scored 14 points for Pearl River.
