Pearl River Boys Soccer Blanks TZ to Win Opener

Pearl River defeated Tappan Zee, 3-0, at home in the season opener for the two rivals Tuesday.

Thunder delayed the second half of Tuesday’s boy’s soccer game between Pearl River and Tappan Zee.

Once it finally got under way, it was the Pirates who delivered a big bang of their own. Pearl River’s Brian Chiarello scored on a pass from Alex Castillo just nine seconds into the second half.

It was Pearl River’s second goal en route to a 3-0 win at home to open the season. The teams tied in two meetings last year.

Pearl River’s first goal came from Chris Beers, giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead heading into the half. Castillo scored a goal of his own later in the second half on a pass from Alex Jeremie. Pirates goalie Austin Maggiolo saved six shots in the win.
