Pearl River Girls, Tappan Zee Boys Win Section 1 Cross Country Championships

Rockland County runners ruled the Class B races in the Section 1 Cross Country Championships Friday at Bowdoin Park in Wappinger Falls.

Pearl River senior Brian Cook finished first overall in the boys Class B race with a time of 16:15.71, but Tappan Zee beat out Pearl River for the team championship for the second consecutive season, this time with 60 points to the second-place Pirates' 74. Luke Gavigan was second overall and Liam Burke was third for the Dutchmen.

The top six spots went to Rockland County runners, with Nanuet's Kyle Chetserman fourth, Nyacks' David Gates fifth and Pearl River's Michael Mahoney sixth. 

Pearl River's boys have finished in the top two for 25 consecutive seasons, winning 16 times. Full Section 1 boys cross country results are available on nymilesplit.com here

Pearl River won the girls team championship on a tiebreaker over John Jay-Cross River, both of which had 41 points. Tappan Zee tok third and Nanuet was fourth.

Tappan Zee senior Erin Jaskot won the individual section championship with a time of 18:53.13, beating out second place finisher Kelly Hayes of Pearl River.  Nanuet's MaryKate O'Meary was fifth.
