Pearl River Football Schedule Gets Tougher

Pearl River is 3-0 heading into today's 3 p.m. home game against Nyack (2-1).

Pearl River (3-0) features a defense that has not given up a score through three games, an offense that seems to be coming along after a rough start and a big-time kicker.

The Pirates will need all of those things as the schedule gets tougher from here on out, starting with today's 3 p.m. home game against Nyack (2-1).

The Indians have a strong defense of their own, giving up just over 11 points per game so far despite a relatively difficult schedule. Their one loss came last week against Greeley, one of the best teams in Class A.

Nyack will test a Pearl River offense that has put up 73 points over the past two games against Riverside and Panas, two teams that are a combined 0-6 on the season.

This is just the beginning for the Pirates, who have a short week after today's game before taking on Spring Valley 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home. The next week is the Little Brown Jug game against Nanuet.

One advantage Pearl River has is kicker Connor O'Sullivan, who made a 52-yard field goal in the rain last week at Panas.

Last season, it was Pearl River with a new head coach in Jeff Michael. This season, Nyack has a new head coach, Mike Ramponi.
