Pearl River Girls Basketball Game Postponed

The Pearl River girls basketball home game today was cancelled by Clarkstown North. UPDATED with game rescheduled for Dec. 19. Also, the Pearl River Boys Basketball Tournament will now just be a tip-off game Tuesday against Tappan Zee.

Clarkstown North contacted the Pearl River Athletic Department earlier today to cancel this afternoon's girls basketball game at Pearl River High School.

The game was rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m.

Santabarbara also said that next week's Pearl River Boys Basketball Tournament has been reduced to a Tip-Off game against rival Tappan Zee 7 p.m. Tuesday because Nyack pulled out of the tournament. Nyack had double-booked a game with Spring Valley and was unable to get out of it.

"It's unfortunate and it's disappointing," Santabarbara said. "Nyack admitted it was their error and oversight. I proposed a couple of solutions but they wanted nothing to do with it."

Nanuet had been scheduled to play Nyack Monday in the first round. As all four teams are in the same league, they will simply play their regularly-scheduled games during the season in place of the cancelled tournament games.

That is also why Pearl River could not just bring in another team. It would have left the participants with too many games on the schedule. Normally if league opponents meet in a tournament, they cancel the corresponding regular-season contest.

Pearl River is scheduled to play at home against Nyack Jan. 18 and against Nanuet Jan. 29.
