Pearl River returns every impact runner from the 2012 team for the Pirates' quest to return to the top of League 4B and Section 1.
In 2012, Nanuet ended Pearl River's streak of league championships that dated back to 1979 and went on to edge out Pearl River for the Section 1 Class B championship, but the Pirates return the depth and talent to contend for both titles in 2013.
"Last year's team accomplished a lot for such a young group," Pearl River Head Coach Dan Doherty said. "With a year's worth of running behind them, much better things could await them."
Senior Kelly Hayes, who finished second overall in the section championship meet a year ago, will once again lead the way for the Pirates. Doherty said the deep group of returning runners also includes seniors Laura Cooper, Emma Haley, Brianne Garvey, Kaitlin O'Riordan, Jasmine Wechsler, Martina Murphy and Caity Bravo as well as junior Catherine Rayward and freshmen Ailish Durcan and Kaitlyn Harding.
Pearl River will compete in the Breen Invitational Saturday at Clove Lake Park.
