The Pearl River girls basketball team defeated Maria Regina, 46-40, in the first round of the Bobcat Tournament at Byram Hills Thursday.
Senior guard Sam Alicandri led the Pirates with 18 points, helping give new Pearl River Head Coach Dan Lauture a victory in his debut with the team.
Pearl River will play in the tournament championship 6 p.m. Saturday at Byram Hills.
