Pearl River Girls Soccer Eliminates Harrison

Casey Walsh came through with three assists for Pearl River in a 3-0 victory at home against Harrison in the Section 1 Class A playoffs.

Pearl River senior forward Casey Walsh draws her share of double-teams, and Saturday's Section 1 Class A girls soccer first-round playoff game at home against Harrison was no exception.

Walsh took advantage by setting up her teammates, getting assists on all three goals as Pearl River blanked Harrison, 3-0, to advance to Tuesday's quarterfinals.

"I think our forwards worked very well together. I think our whole team worked well together," Walsh said.

Annie White gave Pearl River the lead with an early goal.

"Casey's ball was fabulous," Pearl River Head Coach Tim Peabody said of the pass that set up White. "All three were great balls."

Senior Missy Scognamiglio pushed the advantage to 2-0 with a header off a cross by Walsh later in the first half. Amanda DeCourcey added a third goal off another Walsh pass, the only score in the second half.

"We gave them nothing in the second half," Pearl River Head Coach Tim Peabody told his players after the game."

"Their forwards have a great chemistry," Harrison Coach Jon-Erik Zappala said.

The Pirates (14-1-2) will play at home against Eastchester, which defeated Tappan Zee on penalty kicks Saturday. The game is currently scheduled for Tuesday, but that is among many activities in doubt due to Hurricane Sandy.
